Today we are turning out to be not only a pen-less but paperless society as well. Just as the typewriters brought down the requirement for writing, personal computers have brought down the requirement to use paper. In the olden days, whether it was writing a story, filling out a tax form or making your shopping list; all these activities required you to put your Visconti fountain pen to paper. Today you can achieve these very tasks by tapping at the keyboard. And when ink is required, it is printer ink and not the pen ink as in the case of Visconti fountain pens.
Today people would rather use an electronic pen. But less usage of the Visconti fountain pen is not all bad news. With the arrival of the personal computer, the number of trees being cut down has definitely reduced. Besides, computers can record information to be available again in the future to which you can even make changes as compared to rewriting the whole document as in the olden days. Nobody asks you how many words you can write per minute. However, in spite of the fall in the usage of fountain pens, Visconti fountain pens have managed to preserve their tradition.
The Visconti fountain pen is filled with ink from an outside source and this supply constantly feeds its nib or writing tip. For a very long time, man was trying to create a pen that would require no sharpening and would feed itself. Then in the nineteenth century the first fountain pen was invented. This pen required no ink bottles for dipping but worked as well as a dipping pen did. Thus the Visconti fountain pens came into existence.
Although you find a lot of designs in the Visconti fountain pens each one of them is made up of the same fundamental parts. The nib forms the pen’s point and the barrel stores the ink it uses. The cap covers the nib protecting it from damage. And you may ask what makes the ink run gradually into the Visconti fountain pen. It is the capillary action maintains the speed at which the ink runs from the supply to the nib.
Visconti fountain pens are said to be true pieces of art showing off their various features which add value to these writing instruments. Some of the higher end pieces have gold nibs, caps and barrels. Some of them are even coated with several layers of lacquer as look very sleek as a result. You can choose a Visconti fountain pen from the several colors available depending on your tastes. But if you are looking for a sturdy fountain pen rather than one with the best of looks you might find some that are made of hard metal like rhodium.
