If I traced the form of a mitered corner of some cabinet moulding would I be able get a copy made?
if I take it to a woodworker? Or do you think the profiles are kind standard to where I could get a peice to match from a woodworking store? The piece is from the 30’s I think. And a one foot length piece is broken off.
Yes I realize that it could be copied easy if I take a peice to thw woodworker as I have done that before with replacing a part of my antique dresser. But I cant take this with me thats why I worded the question the way I did.
This is actually a a cabinet that is not part of my house. It was a built-in, in another lovely old house that I lived in that was being torn down. (progress) And I brought it with me. It’s too big to take to the shop and I dont wanna rip off a part of the molding from a different spot.
Yes, a woodworker can duplicate the molding for you….some of us can even duplicate carved work.
The simplest thing to do, is to take a piece of the original trim to the woodworker’s shop. With older homes, it was not unusual to see some of the trim built up of multiple pieces of wood, so if they have an actual piece to work off of, that’s the best way to make a match.
Other tricks of the trade include using foam, clay, or plaster, to make a mold of the original work, which can then be used to make a copy.
While you’re at getting a duplicate made – think about if you want to add this same trim to anything else, or if you need to replace more than one piece of it — Once the woodworker has his equipment set up – he can make as much of it as you want – so it would be cheaper to buy it all at once, rather than buying a piece now, and another piece later. You’d end up paying for multiple set up time.
I’d suggest taking a couple of good photos around to different woodworkers, to get estimates – then they can tell you how they prefer to work – whether off the original, or off a template/mold. If they want the original, they can come and get it.
By the way – tracing the edge of the profile from a mitered angle could be a problem – the angle of the cut would throw the profile off. What the woodworker needs is a profile of the piece at a 90 degree cut – not mitered.

Swelling feet is a common problem that anybody can face. Sometimes it may accompany with pain and can affect your normal routines. So to get relief from foot pain, this article has focused on the causes and home remedies for swelling feet.
Swelling of the lower leg and ankle is a common problem. Determining the cause of ankle swelling is the first step to finding effective treatment. Once the cause of the ankle swelling is determined, effective treatment can be initiated. Painless swelling of the feet and ankles is a common problem, particularly in older people. It may affect both legs and may include the calves or even the thighs.
Muscles are attached to bones by tendons. Most of the muscles that move your feet are in the lower legs. The tibialis posterior muscle originates deep in the back of the lower leg and moves your foot inwards. The tibialis posterior muscle has a tendon that wraps around your ankle bone and connects to the bones that form the arch of your foot.
The term “arthritis” is derived from the Greek and means “joint inflammation”. It refers to more than 100 different diseases that can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints. Joints are where the ends of long bones connect and interact.
In addition to swelling, sitting motionless for long periods of time increases your risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT. DVT is a serious and often fatal condition where a blood clot forms in a vein deep within the muscles, usually in the calf or thigh.
There are few causes of swelling and pain in the feet, arthritis is most common cause for swelling feet. The common symptom of arthritis is joint inflammation. Swelling in joints, stiffness in joints, restricted mobility in joints and redness are the reason for arthritis. Frostbite is another cause of swelling feet.
