There are many museums in Jaipur. These are constructed on Hindu architecture, a reflection of rich tradition of India. Know more of these famous and interesting museums in Jaipur worth to visit.
Jaipur called the pink city of India has rich cultural heritage and refined tradition. The city boasts of finest and oldest museums and prominent structures. These museums hold collections of rare and beautiful interesting objects that depicted glimpses of India’s ancient past and great tradition. It also provides informative knowledge for its visitors.
These attractions are famous for their interesting collections of lovely, very old and rare articles and objects are Albert Hall, City Palace Museum and Dolls Museum.
The Albert Hall also known as the Government Central Museum is one of the oldest and most famous museums in Jaipur. A British lieutenant name Swinton Jacob established the museum in the year 1876. The design and style of the museum was based on Indo-Sarcenic architecture. This museum is located in the Ramnivas Gardens.
It is enclosed by magnificent fountains and bed of beautiful flowers. The building is made of several pillars and arches and with many courtyards.
The first floor is exclusive for the display of collection of royal portraits of royal Maharajas of Jaipur. The museum also houses huge collection of miniature paintings indeed marvel to watch. It also exhibits some metal work, articles of ivory and brass, and sculptures.
The museum has a special section which displays Egyptian mummy. There is also another section that displays toys of various countries.
Other attractions you must see are the royal traditional dresses of various ceremonies, priceless jewelry, natural stones, earthenware, woodworks and potteries.
The Albert Hall Museum has operational hours from 10:30 am to 4:30 p.m.
Another museum is the City Palace Museum that registered its name in The Guinness Book of Records. It is famous because it displays the biggest sterling silver article of two mammoth silver vessels in the world. This museum is mainly located in the Diwan-i-Aam of the City Palace. The Diwan-i-Aam means a public hall.
The hall has ceilings designed and patterned from traditional Rajput architecture. These are beautifully painted and decorated. It has large marvelous chandeliers usually protected by dust covers. However these chandeliers are opened only during certain occasions.
This museum takes pride of displays of priceless original ancient manuscripts of the Hindus. The museum also exhibits the miniature form of the Bhagwat Gita. This interesting object was hidden from the cruel reach and eyes of a religious fanatic name Emperor Aurangzeb in the later part of the Mughal Age. History says that everything this man found at his hand is destroyed.
It also displays certain miniature paintings of the ancient past of India. These paintings described are very delicate. There are also displays of elephant saddles called haudas at the museum.
Lastly, the Dolls Museum houses thousands of Dolls. It was built in the year 1974. The approximate distance of it from Jaipur is about 4 kilometers.
The collections of dolls here portray the custom and culture of India and Foreign countries of the world. Also, the dolls exhibited in this museum are not only beautiful but also show the creative talents of their creators.
In the museum one can see displays of dolls dressed in bridal attires of different countries such as Burma, China, Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand nice to look at. Moreover, there are also displays of dolls wearing national costumes of Britain, Germany, Lebanon, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Uganda and the USA.
Apart from these dolls of different countries, one can also see Dolls from different parts of India. These places are: Assam, Bengal, Gujarat, Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
One can also see Indian Dolls in the museum that were made by the natives of the place such as The Rajasthani Dolls. These dolls were created from woods called doodhia. And the Papier-mâché Dolls seen in the museum are instances of local art. These dolls portray rural folklore and village life of Jaipur.
