My wife is a really keen gardener with every garden tool known to man in her possession. She also has hundreds of pots, seed trays bags of topsoil, fertilizer and other things and then there’s the lawn mower and roller. Over the years all this equipment has made its way into the garage and so to solve the problem I went online and did a search for potting shed plans, an unusual birthday present I thought.
I was surprised to find that whole sets of plans were available that covered everything from a simple bird table to a two car carport with potting shed plans being somewhere in the middle.
There were quite a few potting shed plans all with different designs and various functions. We decided on a plan that was not only a shed for storage but had enough room for a worktop so that even on a rainy day she can pot plants to her heart’s content. Before I could begin construction I had to build a base for the shed to sit on. As I didn’t want to go to the expense of a concrete base I decided on some concrete blocks which sat on polythene covered with a layer of gravel between the blocks. This left a two inch gap under the shed allowing it to ‘breathe’.
With our set of professionally created potting shed plans we knew exactly what materials were needed, and could work out the cost beforehand. This also meant just one trip to the supplier where I had my timber cut to size which saved a great deal of time.
Following the step-by-step instructions from my blueprints was straightforward and they also included detailed illustrations so that I could check on my progress.
Our potting shed fitted nicely into the backyard landscape and we have the option of adding a porch later on. And did she accept it as a birthday present – not a chance!
